HOME
WELCOME
In recent months or days you have been placed in a period of time in your life that caused you grief and sorrow in the loss of someone you loved.
The members of the Widowed Persons Service of Tarrant County extend a hand to you and welcome you into our lives.

You are welcome to view the pages of this web site. We extend an invitation to join in our activities. We believe you will find comfort in the knowledge that everyone you meet in the coming months and years through our activities has experienced the same cloudy days but you can be reassured there are sunny days ahead.

After viewing these pages ask the office to send you one of our monthly newsletters. You will be glad you

did.

Once again, we welcome you to review our web site, become a member and get involved. There are no fees or dues.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

July 2022

“We’re having August weather in June this year.” That’s what I heard the weather forecaster for one of the local television channels say recently. That certainly is the case currently, and it doesn't look as though the situation will change anytime soon. Of course, it’s always cool inside wherever WPS is hosting breakfasts/lunches/ dinners, as well as other events. If you can, venture out and join us at one or more of our scheduled events listed on page 3. Our monthly dances continue, alternating between the two venues of the Arlington Elks Lodge and the Ft Worth Elks Lodge. Refer to the flyer for details on the current month’s dance.

Lately, we have experienced somewhat reduced attendance at several of our events. This could be due perhaps to the rising cost of gasoline, groceries, restaurant items and just about anything purchased in a store, or it could be due simply to the usual summer vacations and travel, or both. However, if you’re able, please continue attending as many of these events as you normally attend. Regular socializing with other members is important to everyone’s morale.

This month (July) all active members will receive newsletters via USPS mail. (Note: If you normally receive your newsletter by email, you will receive your emailed copy plus a mailed copy with tickets this month only.) This mailing enables us to distribute the Annual Drawing tickets to all active members, over 900 currently. The tickets include a coupon for a buy-one/get-one-free meal at Spring Creek Barbeque when you buy any regular priced item. Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $2 each. Five (5) tickets will be mailed to each active member. Additional tickets can be obtained by contacting the office as well as from hosts at our events. This drawing is open to anyone, not just members, so family and friends are welcome to participate. Your participation is encouraged and appreciated, since this is the largest fund-raising event WPS holds each year.

Also, this month we will hold our first General Meeting of the year at Spring Creek Barbeque in Burleson at 1:00 PM. There will be door prize drawings for attendees after the business segment of the meeting. You’ll also have a chance to mingle with other members and enjoy a barbeque meal prior to the meeting. Refer to the flyer for details.

I hope everyone has a great (and safe) Independence Day celebration. There are always quite a few fireworks shows in the area during that time. Don’t forget to fly your flag!

Mike Grissom, President
