PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Sadly it seems that some things do not change easily. I started the new year with a letter from a member who attended a WPS function and no one would speak to her or offer to let her join them. I do not know the date or area of the function so I cannot address this directly. So I passed the letter to our new Volunteer Coordinator, Sondra Nantz. This is nothing new. I receive such communications from time to time so it is and has been an ongoing problem. But it is still disturbing because these are individuals looking for acceptance and when they are not accepted, it hurts. Some have said that they would never go to another WPS function. They don’t need rejection as you know. If you remember, they have more than enough to deal with having to go on after losing their spouse. I think those of us that have been through it and moved on sometimes forget how it was to be newly widowed. I hope you will think on this when you encounter a new widowed person in the future. Ways & Means has been very busy the last few years adding more events and this has involved a lot more work. I feel the added events have been very beneficial and do not want to curtail them, but the committee putting them on could use some help. If you do not want to serve on the committee, consider volunteering to help on one of the events either in the preparation, execution or clean up phase. These are important social events. We need a new chair person for this year ASAP. Keep in mind, the chair and committee decide what and how many events will be added.Clarence B |
