Regarding Your July Newsletter

Almost all of you received your July newsletter. This is our annual mailing of all newsletters because they contain the raffle tickets for our biggest fund raiser which we require to help cover expenses. There were no emails sent. I say “almost all” since we had about 18 returned as undeliverable for which we are charged 44 cents. If we obtain a corrected address, it then costs us 61 cents to mail it First Class since a large quantity is required to get the bulk mail rate. Postal regulations require that ‘Return Service Requested’ be in a certain location and be a certain size on the document for it to be accepted. We specify this as part of maintaining member information confidentiality. We do not want your name and address to be available to unauthorized persons. It also lets us know when there is a problem contacting a member. Therefore, if you change your address for any reason, please notify the office. 817-551-2922.

Another factor that could have caused newsletters to be late this month was the requirement that the envelopes be sealed, a postal regulation dated September 2009. They were delivered to the post office on Friday unsealed as we have done for many years, but they would not accept them, and, therefore, they were taken back to the office. Monday they were sealed, over 1500 of them, and returned to the post office where they were finally accepted. If your newsletter was late getting to you, I am sorry, but the Postal Service apparently is not required to notify users of changes in its regulations.
